On July 17, 18 and 19, meet your favorite riders for the arrival of stage 15 and the departure of stage 16 of the 109th edition of the Tour de France.
The Tdf (Tour de France) is a century-old cycling competition that takes place in stages across France.
It began in 1903 and has become more and more famous each year. Today, the Tour de France is the most prestigious cycling race in the world. It takes place every year in July and is composed of 21 stages over 3500 km. The Tour de France gathers every year cycling lovers, who come to encourage the riders on all stages. It was also followed in 2019 by more than 40 million viewers.
An unmissable event in the sports world, that Carcassonne welcomes on 2 stages in 2022.
Since October 14th we now know the route of the 15th and 16th stage, unveiled in Paris at the Palais des Congrès.
The runners coming from Rodez, will be welcomed in an unusual medieval environment in a friendly atmosphere that Carcassonne knows to share. A must of the Tour de France having already hosted the route more than 12 times in history.
This stage will start on July 17th in Rodez and will end in Carcassonne after 200 km of flat road through Occitania, offering a grandiose arrival at the foot of the ramparts. Will you be ready to welcome the leading pack and all your favorite jerseys after a final sprint at the finish of stage 15?
It will have after a good day of rest, and will connect Carcassonne to Foix, during this one the fans will be able to discover the Pyrenees Ariegeoises, Audoises and Orientales.
For the fourth time in its history, the Tour will start a stage from Carcassonne, which will not be easy!
The riders will have to ride a hilly stage of 179 km, so get your legs ready and fans get your cheers ready. They will need it!
Before leaving for this stage, they will make a tour of "La Bastide Saint-Louis" through the Boulevards of Carcassonne.
The Tour de France will then be able to ring the bell for the 16th stage and begin its final week.
During this stage linking the city of Carcassonne to Foix, two main difficulties will have to be taken into account.
This year the riders will have to get their jerseys wet, passing through Port de Lers and the Mur de Péguère.
The climb of the Port de Lers with an average incline of 7% over 12 kilometers will be the occasion to test their endurance and prepare them for the second difficulty of this stage, which will not be without rest either.
The Mur de Péguère, with an average gradient of 7.9%, will start at the foot of the pass in Massat and will end at the top after 10 challenging kilometers.
The Mur de Péguère is a part of the Tour de France not to be underestimated, with a gradient between the Col des Caougnous and the Col des Péguère ranging from 16 to 18% over more than 4 kilometers. A good way to get into the swing of things before continuing on to the other peaks and passes of the Pyrenees.
On these stages the enthusiasts are waiting impatiently for Tadej Pogacar, winner since 2020 of the stages of Carcassonne. But maybe we will see some new faces in the leading pack?
